Our wicks are specially made for the use of beeswax, they can also be used for rapeseed wax. But how do you find the right wick diameter (wick number/wick size)?

Example for beeswax:
Measure the largest diameter of the candle. Round the amount.
For example: 3.7 cm => 4 cm (rounded diameter) or 8.2 cm => 8 cm (rounded diameter).

For rounded diameters of 1-4 cm, the wick size corresponds to the rounded value.
For example: rounded diameter 3 cm = wick number 3 (for beeswax).

However, if you have a rounded diameter of 5 or more cm, you must add “2”.
Example: rounded diameter 11 cm, then the wick number was 13 (11+2) for beeswax,

If you do not have the correct diameter, you can use the next higher or lower wick number
For example: you need the number 7, you can use 6 or 8. If possible, use the thicker wick, i.e. 8.

In the following tables you can download the appropriate wick thicknesses for beeswax or rapeseed wax.

ATTENTION:
This procedure for calculating wick sizes applies to our wicks. We do not know if this process is the same for other vendors' wicks. If you are making a new candle, it is necessary to check the wick size by carrying out a burning test with the candle.

Attention: Our wicks have a burning direction.

If you use the wrong direction, the candle will not burn or will not burn well.
The “top” of the candle is therefore marked with a knot.

With coils, the end at which the candle is lit is on the outside.

ATTENTION

So-called “flat wicks” are used for the production of candles using the dipping process. These have no burning direction.
